3rd MOBILITY: BE WATER WISE, MY FRIEND

On Friday, 1st of April our Austrian friends arrived at the Alicante Airport. They were Hanna, Radovan, Lorenz, Johannes, Valentina, Pia, Hannah, Philipp, Lena and Rosa, led by Werner and Katharina.

O
n Saturday we showed them some of our most beloved spots: Calablanca and Ca La Barraca. As much as we were astonished to see their towering mountains, were they amazed by our soul-healing sea.

On Monday, 4th of April we welcomed them to our high school. Then we invited them to participate in a bike repair workshop led by our fantastic IT teacher and bike-lover Toni Soler. It was so cool!

Then, led by our principal, Amparo Cortell, we went to visit our mayor, José Chulvi. He has been been following all our little green steps ever since we began this project.

We even made it to the news!

After that, we had fun with a gymkana. Our Austrian friends enjoyed running through our downtown and getting to know it better. Finally, we enjoyed lunch together :)

In the following days, we did many great things:

1) we visited our fabulous, state-owned desalination plant. It has solved much of the worrysome trouble we had with water. We still need to be much more efficient, pan leaks, and cut superfluous water intake, but we are on our way. Besides, the great goal is to make it energetically sustainable, so they are working on how to reduce the bill and its footprint. Our fantastic colleague Victor, an electricity teacher from the Vocational Trainining branch, explained us how they produce electricity using solar panels to run some parts of it.

2) we worked hard on our final product (the footprint APP);

3) Jose Luis, another great colleague from the Vocational Training branch, offered us a phenomenal light sensor workshop;

4) Raul, our green-thumbed colleague, gifted us with a fabulous, water-saving, urban gardening workshop;

5) we had a farewell gathering, with some music and snacks!

But we didn't want to say good-bye to our Austrian friends, not yet, so next morning we drove them to València to have a lovely day over there. We hired some bikes, and went along the old riverbed of the Turia river, which is the greatest public park of the city. We visited monuments and museums, we had lunch and we saw our friends to their hostel where we finally had to wish them farewell.

Auf Wiedersehen!
